Hai
I'm new here, so don't be too hard on me if I put some "old" questions.

Since changing to my new webhost I get "tons" of spam. I've looked at all the settings in spamassasin, but still they come in. Here I've seen something about spamblocker, but it's beyond me at the moment what to do with it and how to get it working.

What I mainly want is the following : the spam must be recognized and deleted on the server.

My settings in spamassassin :
where do you want the spam to go : delete
what score threshold : custom 3.0 (and still today 45 spammessages. I was used to 3 or 4 !! with my old webhoster)

aside from that I've got a long blacklist (copied from my mailwasher blacklist)

Any help is welcome.

Henk

SpamBlocker is distributed with DirectAdmin. It is basically the exim.conf file running on your server but there are a couple of things you must do to get SpamBlocker and SpamAssassin to work on your server....

1) You need to make sure that SpamAssassin is installed and running.
2) You need to enable SpamAssassin in the file /etc/exim.conf
3) You need to add domains where you want SpamBlocker active to the file /etc/virtual/use_rbl_domains

There is a plugin available for SpamBlocker that will make your life easier for 2 & 3 but 1 you still have to do manually.

can you be more specific about the place to find exim.conf because I can't find it.
I've obviously got spam assassin running

Onno, you missed where he pointed out he's a site owner hosted by a hosting company using DA.

Henk,

There's nothing you can do to use SpamBlocker.

If your hosting company is using it (some don't; it's entirely up to them) they can turn it on for your domain if it's not already on.

45 spam messages a day is really not a lot depending on your domain, how long you've owned it, and if anyone owned it before you. About the only thing YOU can do to avoid spam is to make sure you do not use a "catchall" email address but instead add all the specific forwarders you need to get all your email to one address you'll actually log in to and use. You should also remember to set up webmaster@ your domain, as many people will write there, and abuse@ your domain and postmaster@ your domain; both are required by the Internet RFCs (rules).

I've always used at least "5" as my cutoff for spam to avoid false positives, but lately I don't use SpamAssassin at all; I prefer SpamBlocker.

I get about the same amount of spam as you do; before using SpamBlocker I was getting hundreds of spams a day.

I've moved this thread to User-Level Difficulties, since that's obviously where it belongs.

Thanx Jeff

you're right about the ownership. I just recently moved from one webhost to another, so I've owned this domain for some 5 years now. In the beginning I got some 100 spammails a day, but that changed to a lot less and in the end some 4 or 5 (probably the webhost had a spamfilter installed on his server).
Now I got some 60 spammails again and whatever I did with spamassassin, it didn't seem to change. Now today, I got some 10 spammails. I keep my fingers crossed !

thanx to the answers so far.
