SpamAssassin BSMTP 421 errors for local delivery

This is a new install from the latest DirectAdmin custombuild 1.2. I installed SpamAssassin per DirectAdmin's knowledge base.

When e-mail is sent from one account to another within the same domain or another domain on the same server (all local), spamd spikes at 100% and eventually returns the mail with :

Code:
An error was detected while processing a file of BSMTP input. 
The error message was: 421 Lost incoming connection 
The SMTP transaction started in line 0. 
The error was detected in line 3. 0 previous messages were successfully processed. 
The rest of the batch was abandoned. 421 Lost incoming connection 
Transaction started in line 0 Error detected in line 3

I've found many others through google with the same problem (some on the forums) but no one seems to have found the problem and eventually dumped SA, Exim, or DirectAdmin all together.

If I missed the solution, please point me to the correct one and feel free to commence with the flogging.

Anyone have a suggestion for troubleshooting or any ideas?
