I will try to explain this best I can.

I moved services to a new server over the weekend.

New server was prepared with Centos 5.7 32bit, and installation went fine as usual.

Fri. made backup to backup server, (extra backup- we do nightly)

Did a restore to the new server during the night Fri. 1 June, restore completed as expected with no errors.

What is happening is accounts using Squirrelmail and have large amounts of mail (200 meg or so) can not access their accounts via. SM, it just sits waiting forever.

My test account and those accounts with low email counts work fine.
Roundcube works fine for large and small number of emails stored in their account.

Is this an Squirrelmail issue, something in doing the backup / restore ?

Steps need to reinstall SM and leave customer emails intact (anyone)?

I you need more info are can offer some constructive help/advice, it will be welcomed.

SM ver 1.4.22

Do you see any errors in the apache error log. What version php are you running? I have over 8gb and 100,000 emails and I use squirrelmail fine. There might be another problem somewhere and apache error log would be the first place to start looking.

just errors abt ssl cert and localhost,, nothing abt. squirrelmail etc...

howto re-install squirrelmail- via custom build maybe- yum or ? without losing customer info

roundcube works ok, just SM has started this problem !!! more info below

Apache 2.2.22 Running

[root@xxxx custombuild]# ./build squirrelmail d

SquirrelMail 1.4.22 installation is done.

this look ok /right ?

thanks for the responses

Yeah that error is fine. Was there any change or not?

i can login to newly created account or account with only a few emails , but when trying to login to others esp. the ones with quite few emails and subfolders the browsers just spins wating for the server for an hour or more, so says my client but i have only waited for 10 minutes or so and get the same problem, tried a backup from last week and it seemed ? to work , then restored last nights backup and the same problem, so went back to last weeks backup and it dose no work either,, this is nuts, that's squirrelmail anyway :)

no difference after the custombuild

thanks chuck

You might want to hire someone to look at it then. Could be anything causing it.

We've seen that happen in the past when we were using mbox to store email, but you say you did a restore. Did you do a restore to an empty server? If so, then even if you peviously had mbox it should have been converted to Maildir.

Other than that I don't know what could be causing it without forensic study.

Thanks for the reply Jeff and scsi. Well after another day or so it cleared itself up... moving to a new server meant in this case a new ip!! So dns may have a hand in this as a day or so seems kinda right for all the changes to take effect! Again thanks all..

chuck

hmmm but why squirrelmail and not roundcube not so sure abt the dns or ? nah, it's working leave it alone !!
