squirrelmail / dovecot problems,,,

when trying to log in to squirrelmail i get this ....

Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost.
0 : php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

after power failure and shutdown of server , on reboot dovecot failed to start,, something about already started with #### pid... after boot, directadmin shows dove got stoped and it would not start, ssh in tried to start had same error, ran top and killed process id, start dovecot started, directadmin stops and starts ok,, but can't use squirrelmail or the two related,,, semi nube needs some help :p
 
Check you have an entry for localhost in /etc/hosts file.
 
host file there, but no localhost entry, added it and now squirrel etc. is eating nuts,,,,
