Has anyone else noticed that at times Squirrelmail is very slow logging in? Other times it is fast. We are running version 1.4.2. Anyone else noticed this? Any ideas?

Matthew

UWIMAP :( Seriously, It could be something else but I am done with Squirrel for the same problems. I am using Horde3.0 now. But it may not be the fault of squirrel at all.

IMAP itself could be slow on very large mail folders, since the all the emails in the folder are in one folder, and IMAP has to parse the entire folder before sending any answers to the IMAP client.

That's only one reason why I wish DA would switch to Maildir.

You are right about the large folders and imap. This is why uwimap needs to be replaced. This wan't a problem a year ago, but I have more and more clients storing their email on the server and for many a 200MB email box is not uncommon.

Shall we start a poll in the feature request forums?

Maybe it might have better luck than the awstats poll. All we need is an easy method to transfer all data over to the new client.

DA staff has been very good at implementing anything we as a group have asked for, if it's easy enough for them to do.

When they don't implment something, my educated guess is that it's not easily done in a short time frame, so it's held off for when/if there's ever a version that's a completely new design.

I once discussed switching from mbox to Maildir with John, and his point to me that converitng existing servers is quite complex.

Jeff

Unfortunately that is the inherent problem with changing mbox to maildir. However, DA is still young software and to handicap it's mail capabilities for future development is probably not the best idea.

Someone has already done that

I have been told that Steve at Rack911 (if I remember the company name correctly) has successully done a few mbox to maildir conversions.

By who? Steve, I guess if he is in the mood he could do it. I had asked to do this two months ago. He never got back to me.
If anyone can do it, he can.
