When using SSL what is the benefits and or differences in using a directory named private_html

or
Using a symbolic link from private_html to public_html - allows for same data in http and https

?

Thank you

Non just if you want to put different files that are ssl only in private_html. I relink private to public on mine and it works fine for what I need it to.

Thank you for your input.

I think that is what I will do is make the link.

So hence, whatever page I want to access via ssl i will put the https infront of the link, and vice versa?

Exactly.
The main difference between the two is that when they are seperated you could have a certain service only accessible using SSL, for example (and a redirect on the non-SSL version) to ensure users are accessing the page using SSL, using the symbolic link option whatever you can normally access using http:// can also be accessed using https://.

Thank you for the explanation.
I appreciate it.

Do you have to relink it for every user and domain?

Yes it is not linked because it is for putting separate files in that you want to be ssl only.

Users can also establish the link within their control panel - and remove it, at any time.

Hope that helps.
