I have a domain setup like, eg: sub.domain.tld
the dns doesnt actually point to this server (it points to old server and once the website has been migrated from the old server the dns will be updated.)

So.. creating this gives no error although the dns points to another ip.

so far so good.

now i try to create a sub domain: acceptance.sub.domain.tld
(this time i set an A record for acceptance.sub.domain.tld domain that points to this server.)

However, I get the error:
The domain xxx does not belong to you. The subdomain will not be created

i just figured out how i can disable this check but i'm wondering what is actually being checked?

whats going on internally? how is the verification done?
why can i create a subdomain: sub.domain.tld without any problem and what causes it to throw the above error when i create a sub.sub.domain.tld domain?
