The trouble with FTP.

Hi, I am quite new at this and I've got a silly question.

Setting up my FTP account was easy, I am using LeechFTP.

The problem is, it connects just fine, but when it is trying to get a directory-listing, it comes back with a error-message:

> LIST
! Socket Error: operation timed out or aborted
~ Could not retrieve directory listing for "/"
~ Disconnected

Or..
> LIST
! Socket Error: operation timed out or aborted
~ Could not retrieve directory listing for "/domains/**mydomain**/public_html/"
~ Disconnected

It is probably the command to get the directory-list. (I always thought is was "ls" on Unix...).

Could somebody please help me ?

Turn of passive ftp and see if that helps you.

Yes, ls is the proper command.

Your provider has a misconfigured firewall. If s/he configures the firewall properly you won't have to turn off passive ftp.

Ask them to look at this thread and write a reply to it, and let me know what firewall they're using and I'll tell them how to fix it.
