Well no, once you create an account in DA is not that domain has already been registered.

For some major customer we sometimes provide a ready-to-go account in directadmin with the domain they will need, so they can set their hosts file and configure everypart of the website without yet have registed the domain.

Correct, the domain is not registered but the website is active on DA, that's what I said.
I see now what you mean. Create the account, let the customer go his way and after he has finished, activate/register the domainname.
Our customers always want their domain registered and reachable as soon as possible. But indeed for using it the way you explain, the hosts file is perfect.
Never thought of it that way. :)
