Hi there

Happenned something strage, i'm changing users from one server to another, and for my suprise, some users just have a bigger space ocupation than on old server.

Have a user that on old server ocupies 64MB and on the new one after restoring the backups , just occupies 83MB.

I'm making ftp backups from old server to /home/admin/user_backups/ on the other server.

Anyone has just happened this?

There are several possibibilites that could cause this that I can think of.
For example:
1. Configuration on the new server is set to cound email usage whereas the old server did not.
2. The new server is counting files it should not or the old server was not counting all files properly (older version of DirectAdmin ?)
3. The older server ceased to update tally so it's been reporting an older usage report.
etc etc.
As long as the difference isn't massive (say more than 100mb difference, I wouldn't loose any hair over it)

One other possibility...

New server has much larger hard drive than does old server...

Minimum block size on smaller drives is smaller, so very small files will take on average much more space on larger drives.

And webhosting generally means lots of small files.
