Hi,

I have direct admin installed and working properly. Is is possible to upgrade server from fedora 5 to fedora 7? have anyone done it before? Will it break Direct Admin?

Thanks,
Hameedullah Khan.

We built a new machine and did a fresh OS install. DA will issue a temporary license if you contact [email protected] and explain what you are doing. We install the new DA and then ran a bunch of scripts to copy data from old machine to new one. The admin backup function in the enhanced skin was not there yet when we did this, you may want to try that but I think it is still beta.

We did require some hardware changes on the server as well as upgrading from fc1 to fc6, so it made sense to do it this way so we had as little downtime as possible. The license does contain os version and will prevent future updates so you have to contact billing anyway.

But for me the case is a bit different, I am on the same hardware and want to upgrade the server in place, with out stopping or removing any services. Is it possible with Direct Admin?

Thanks,
Hameedullah Khan.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to FC 7.

FC 7 isn't supported on all fronts yet.
I would go to FC 6, and wait at least half or a whole year to go to 7.

I went from FC3 to FC6 twice. All went well.
(go via FC4 and FC5, don't skip any version)
