Before you say it, I know that the answer to this question can probably be found by putting together information from other threads, but I want to be absolutely clear on the answer so I will ask it here.

I just upgraded to the latest DA version and I noticed in the version history that this newer version has support for Apache 2.0. Also I would like to upgrade to PHP 5.

Anyway, my question is, can I upgrade these without running into many problems or having to take my server down for longer than let's say a half-hour?? And if so, how should I go about doing it? Does DA have some special scripts to run? Thanks.

Louie

Yes, you are correct. This information can be found in other threads already ;)

Yes you can upgrade to php5 and apache2 probably within your timeframe. There are to many variables to guarantee it though ;)

Ok, is there any special scripts DA has come out with for installing PHP 5 or should I just do it like the how-to suggests that I found on this site.

And, about apache 2.0, should I just run the customapache script instructions that can be found at the Apache 2.0 feature explanation page.

And, most importantly, which order should I install them in to make it easiest? Apache first or PHP?

Thanks. Please answer all 3 questions.

Louie

1. No because php5 is not officially supported by DA, not even beta's yet

2. Yes

3. Apache and then php since you must build php for apache2

Ok, thanks for all of your help! I guess I will only upgrade Apache because I don't really want to use something that DA doesn't officially support.

Well technically Apache2 is still in beta stages so... :p

PHP5 and MySQL4.1 have been reported to break some popular scripts. I would hold off on at least MySQL for the time being. php5 can have backwards compatibility if configured so I think. I'll be making the upgrade later today.

Please let me know how your upgrade went and tell me of any complicated things or tricks I should know if were to upgrade to PHP 5.

Also, Apache 2.0 support in Beta stages, how is it going? Is it running ok for people? Thanks.

Louie

I migrated to Debian which took longer than expected so I didn't get the chance to upgrade yet. I had to reschedule for a later date.

I believe Apache2 is pretty much production stable, but DA doesn't want to move all systems to it since Apache2 doesn't have the same kind of module support as apache1 does.

One more Apache 2.0 question. Is all I need to do to upgrade is run the customapache script instructions that can be found at the Apache 2.0 feature explanation page and that's it, it will run smoothly from there with all websites working properly? Or is there more configuration I will have to do after that. The reason I ask is because I want the upgrade to go as smooth and as quickly as possible. Thanks.
