[URGENT HELP REQUIRED]Removed ncurces now server isnt functioning

Tonight I was trying to get ftptop to run, and it said missing curses or ncurces library of which it was installed. I removed ncurces via yum remove ncurces and guess what; it took the entire operating system with it which is Fedora Core 8. I would like to know why this happened, and why in my 9 years of experience with linux this happened when every other linux os I did this too wasn't affected.

Is this the by product of DirectAdmin?

I don't see how it can be a byproduct of your DirectAdmin installation; DirectAdmin doesn't have anything to do with yum.

I'd bring up this rather unfortunate occurrance on the a Fedora forum.
