URGENT -- Server not working correctly after install.

I submitted a ticket to my provider asking if they block port 25. They responded that they do but they can unblock it if I want.

Should I do this? Or, can I configure exim to use 587 by default instead?

I guess you should ask them to unblock 25 port unless you are going to use a smarthost in another DC to send emails from your server.

Edit: I didn't see the previous two posts before writing this reply. But if you're expecting to use an email server on a machine then port 25 must be unblocked.

You're double-posting. I replied to the other thread. I'm happy to continue here, but won't repost. Check my reply.

If turning off CSF still didn't resolve the problem it's likely not a firewall problem and resinstalling and tweaking CSF is likely just a waste of time.

I can understand why you don't want to post your real information here but if you don't all we can do is continue to guess, and you can see for yourself that guessing isn't getting anywhere. So either post the correct information including unadulterated log entries, or hire someone you trust to log into your system and fix it for you.

First, sorry for the double post. I posted in the other section and wasn't getting any responses, so I continued my question here.

I didn't change any of the error messages I was getting just the IP and host names. And the reason for that was because years ago I posted on a forum for help on something and then when you typed in the name of my site later on that was the first response in Google.

Anyway... It seems that the problem has been figured out. Port 25 is closed at the provider level. I will get them to open it and see if I can figure it out from there.

Thanks for the help everyone!

I do understand why you don't want to post your information, but bottom lin from my point of view is having would have resulted in someone telling you the problem within one or two posts instead of 22 (and yet a second thread).

:)
