I have a user that transfered a domain in and then wanted to add that domain to their hosting account. The domain is in our dns but when user tries to add domain in "Domain Setup" they get the following message;

Cannot create that domain

That domain already exists

Is this a bug? I know its in the dns, but user should be able to add domain to his account after a domain transfer.

thanks for any help.

If a domain's zone file is already on your system DirectAdmin can't add it. I'm not sure what you mean by transfered a domain in, and why you need to add it once it's already on the server.

Please be much more specific.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for your reply.

Well "transfered in" meaning transfered a domain to us. User has a webhosting account with primary domain and then transfered in another domain name. So it gets setup in the in the zone file and that is normal.

But user wants to add another domain (the domain that transfered in) to his web hosting account to run another site with this domain.

So we do this with "domain setup" right?

If it gives

Then it must already exist somehow...

Maybe in the DNS zone, or even check in /home/user/domains/

Peter,

It does exist in our dns and that is normal. User has 2 domains hosted with us, this second domain is the one we are trying to add so that they can run 2 sites on same account.

I have other users doing this but they all registered multiple domains through us and can add domain.

Then remove the DNS file (if needed make backup) of the domain that can't be added. After removing the DNS file you can add the domain without any problems under the user at 'Domain Setup'.

What he said.

If you manually add a DNS zone for a domain that hasn't been added yet - DA checks the DNS for all added domains, and if the zones exists then DA will throw up that error, hence it thinks it already exists.

No its not. What is normal is that a user adds the domain and as a result the zone file gets set up. If the zone file is getting set up before the user adds the domain then that is not normal.

i got this resolved.

Not sure what was causing this exactly, but i made sure the zone was deleted and restarted bind.

thanks to everyone for their help.
