Hi there,

Instead of moving a user between resellers and then deleting the reseller I accidentally deleted the reseller before moving the user. Now the user is in the user list still assigned to the reseller that doesn't exist anymore... Hence, no way of accessing user data and website down for this user...

HELP!

How can I resolve this when there's no backup available!!??

thanks!

It's my understanding that when you delete a reseller the users are deleted as well. Hopefully I'm wrong and you're lucky, because there's no easy way to restore deleted files in Linux and/ in Unix.

To see if I'm wrong try this through a root shell login:
Code:
cd /home/USERNAME/
to see if it gets you to the user. If not, then the user is gone.

If you turn off the server the moment you discover the error, then pull the drive and do a bit-copy to another drive, then send either (if it's a bit-copy they're functionally equivalent) to one of those expensive restore companies, or spend time learning how to use restore methods (it's an art as well as a science and it's generally best learned by trial-and error), then you have a good chance.

This is as good an article as any on the subject.

Jeff

thanks

thanks for your prompt reply Jeff, everything's gone I'm afraid :(

live and learn I suppose...

Thats why you should always have backups. It cant be that expensive to add a 2nd drive to the server.
