When I first purchased my domain name and directadmin server hosting or whatever you call it, it was all one package and one price. Recently Ive been wanting to create a new domain name and start a new website. when i log in to my directadmin site, it says i can create new domain names. so i did that yesterday and uploaded some code. however when i type in that new domain in internet explorer it says the webpage doesnt exist. now i never went and purchased this domain name so im assuming i need to do that right?

now i guess my next question would be, once i purchase that name, what do i need to do next? even if i do purchase the domain name, how does my directadmin site know that im the one who owns it?

thanks!

If your hosting company only allows you to create one domain, then you need to ask them to upgrade you, thats if they allow multi-domain packages.

How did you create the new domain name on your DirectAdmin account?

Of course you can't just start using a domain name, because then how would the routers on the Internet know where to find you? You have to buy the domain name from a registrar or from your hosting company. If you buy it from your hosting company they'll probably automatically point it to their nameservers. If you buy it from a registrar you'll need to point it to the nameservers your hosting company tells you to use.

And of course it won't work unless, as Peter points out, your hosting company allows it.
