With Linux, is there a method to control the partition order during setup?

With FreeBSD, I can define the partitions in the order I want to. This is advantageous because I can always put /usr and /home last, which means with a VM if I need more space and simply tell VMware to make the VHD larger and then extend into the free space. When I define them in the same order during an AlmaLinux install, /home ended up in the #2 position where I cannot easily expand. I do not want to use LVM and I am using XFS because I deal with hundreds of thousands small files.

Thanks!

in such case just leave free space, then when centos will be installed - create last partition and mount it as /home.

Genius! That hits it out of the park for me!

That is HUGE for me. Using your method, I can make a DirectAdmin model VM that has room for everything and a tiny /home. The size of a VM matters a lot when you store backups of them or run them on online services. /home is the only partition I ever have an issue with.

I always let the home partition in the last order so it can be expanded easier. The thing that you are going to expand more would be home partition in DA. So let it be the last order.
