Change IP of domain w/o downtime

I need to change an IP for an active domain from one dedicated IP to another. The www portion is the only part that is changing. No other site needs to take the old IP during the transition and currently no other site is on the new IP. Making the IP and DNS changes is easy, but how can I avoid the situation of half of the world going to the old address and finding nothing while the new address is resolving? The site would need to respond to both IPs during the transition.

Thanks!

The site would need to respond to both IPs during the transition.

Configure apache to respond to both ip's for that domain. Its been explained here before.

I looked for that before I posted and didn't find anything. The only thing I could think of would be to add a copy of the vhost to the Apache includes that has the old IP. I don't know if there is something more elegant or not. I'll see if I can find the posts you are referring to.

Thanks!
