How can I change the proftpd settings without being reset after an update

For example: if I change exim I just add my new setting in to /etc/exim.variables.conf.custom

but how about proftpd? anyone know?

I just do some research, zEitEr say:
/usr/local/directadmin/custombuild/custom/proftpd/conf/proftpd.conf

Directadmin support say:
I checked the code, and yes it should work in custom/proftpd.vhosts.conf. Just make sure that the file is readable by the "diradmin" user.

So someone can help me confirm about it?

Normally custom directory has the name in it.
For Apache, it uses the /custom/ap2/ directory, for roundcube /custom/roundcube/ so I think DA support made a typo and Zeiter has it correct.
