I have a question about the lifetime licenses, maybe it's been asked before and I can't find it. I understand that there are no more lifetime licenses, which makes sense. When I check the license price on the site, those are pretty hefty amounts per month. If you run a shared hosting server, you can still fairly distribute the costs across all customers, though you also don't want to set up servers with an extremely large number of customers, preferring somewhat smaller servers instead.

But looking at the license costs for a VPS customer, it's almost unsellable. The portion of the DirectAdmin license cost becomes so significant. Apart from the DirectAdmin license fees, there are of course a lot of other costs to run a server and then competing with big companies becomes more or less impossible, or am I seeing this wrong?

I also have a question about how the lifetime licenses work. Will they continue to function properly as long as we use them, or will there be certain features that become unavailable in the future? For example, will we be unable to install something like PHP 8.3

Thanks!

You are unable use MariaDB 10.11 and never ones, also ProPack features not allowed in this case.
All other works as it was. PHP 8.3 you will be able to use from next DA release (in few days), or you can use Alpha channel today.
you can convert your lifetime license to new license with 50% monthly price, so you will have standard license with 15$/mo payment.

In fact they are not. Compare those prices with the other 2 professional panels out there and you will see that DA is cheaper. 1 dollar cheaper than Plesk but a whole lot cheaper than cPanel.
Only Plesk has a seperate VPS price which is limited to either 10 or 30 domains.

It's a choice a company has to make. Only very few software company's sell lifetime licenses anymore, it's good for customers but after time it's bad for business (for the selling software company).

As for the future, next to MariaDB 10.11 not known yet. But @Zhenyapan has explained it already.

If it is a small VPS, I think the number of domains is not much, the $5 package is reasonable for it. Why do I have to buy Unlimited when I can't use more than 20 domains? If you can't pay $5/month, you should think about free panels for customers. For example, Cyber panel, Fastpanel,...

Often 20 domain names is not enough to use, the best is that vps is 50% cheaper than dedicated servers and then unlimited domain names, is better.

Those $5 packages are not ment for hosting business but for hobbyists or a small company. It's 20 domains not 20 user accounts.
You can't compare a personal license with a lifetime license as this has the same options as a normal $30/mont license. So unlimited everything.
