Admin password change error

I can't change the password for the admin account. It shows the attached error.

Error changing password​

user: unknown user ftp

Yesterday I transferred the directadmin backup to the new directadmin account but now I can't change the password and I can't connect to ftp.

Are you trying to changed admin password (user admin, not ftp)? May you open a support ticket on it?

I can change the password over SSH with the passwd admin command, but not from the DA interface. Also, although port 21 is open, it does not connect to the admin account from FTP, but it connects to the root account from port 22.

Error log:

Status: Connection attempt failed with “ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server”.
Error: Could not connect to server

I presume you do have a domain present on the admin account. If yes, then it's oke.
