hi i need some assistance with migrating from one DA server to another. The old one is having performance issues and i found it was better to spin up a new server with more resources for less money than work on the old one.

I am very willing to pay for someone reliable to do the migration as well. The server it is on is brand new and not messed with. DA is using a monthly license there that I will transition to my lifetime license once migration is completed. I have root login's on both as well as all the info for control panel on both sides plus login with godaddy for name servers and 1&1 for reloading the OS if needed.

what would you charge for this?
Transfer of backup files was about 7-8 mins, since it's the same network internally it's fast and i confirmed it's 25gb fiber.
Accounts are under 20
one large account is ecommerance and needs to have an optimized database which i haven't known how to do.
i use installatron and will transfer that license to this new server
OS is baseline and updated, fresh install of DA has been done
server can be reloaded fresh if requested.

Cutover can begin anytime that works for you. I am in the US and sunday's are a bit light on websites so an hour downtime or less is ok. the biggest key is i don't want orders to come in on the old server while we are migrating.

You can forget about that. You can not downgrade licenses. You can use either modern or lifetime.
You can go from lifetime to modern (montly) but you can not go from montly to lifetime.

So if you want to move, you have to install the new server with the lifetime license (yes that can be done, but then on the old server DA login is not possible anymore).
After installation you can activate the licese on the old server again, then make your backups and transfer them to the new server.
Activate lifetime license on new server again and restore all accounts and check if everything is ok. Once done, shutdown the old server.

You can ask @zEitEr or @smtalk for this, both are great in this kind of work.

That must be a right pain in the backside for you guys with this licensing malarky. Especially as you have to faff about doing it in that way. You'd think DA would offer a temporary key for things like migration as things like server upgrades and migrations have always been, and always will be a thing, and not everyone has the benefit of keeping their IP especially if you move datacentre. Personally thinking it can't be a financial hardship for a company this size that has pretty much cornered part of the market to do this. Sorry, Just my 2 cents here on this.

just create the admin backup and prepare the FTP credential before install the new server.

in the new server, just using admin backup to store via FTP protocol, it'll show the files list after put the FTP credential.

Or if your old server don't have enought space,
install the new server and restart DA in the old server to backup via FTP to the new server.

thanks for this man, i am actually going to blow away the server this morning and get a fresh load on it. i will undo that license and install the correct lifetime license over there. i never thought you couldn't switch over the license.

it would only make some sense to give a very limited one time license of like 10-15 days or so to help customers with this, even for a small fee i would pay it.

It's not a problem. DA has always helped us with this in the past, but since a couple of years ago no new licenses keys are made anymore.
However in the meantime we already moved servers twice this way, it's not really a fuzz, one just has to keep this in mind.

We normally always first take all admin backups/transfers, then install the new server, rsync all backups to the new server and import them.
Then set nameservers correctly again and once this is synced, just to be sure we rsync all mail again so nothing is missed.
The other time the old DA server kept working a few hours longer and we could use both so it was even more easier.

And if one has more licenses, it's even easier because then you can just use another lifetime license.

I understand, but they really want to keep legacy to legacy and sometimes the license works on both servers for little time (maybe an hour) which makes life easier.
But I'm glad I could warn you in time.

i've done DA to DA migrations before and they were seamless using the backup and restore method in the console and moving them with SSH, super simple.

it's down to the errors i am getting during the restore that cause me to back off and revert.

i don't have a lot of users but mysql is using around 1.4gb of memory which kinda seems high to me, one customer is having latency issues and some other very odd issues but then again they do seem to have tons of small odd issues too.
