just wondering if anyone would be interested in this, lots of good support on this forum, be nice to move some of it to real time.

if so, suggestions on a network to use?

Is this a poll?

If so, let me be the first and perhaps only vote against it.

Why?

I have a business to run as well as a life. I can't and won't be held to answer support questions in realtime. I won't subscribe to an IRC channel.

I'll continue to offer help here (and/or on an email list) as time permits.

it's kinda a poll. i mean it wouldn't be manditory or anything, just more of user based support channel (not an official means of support) just add another option to help people out.

"rumrugby: anyone like to host it?"

you do not 'host' irc channels.

Good idea...

I recommend use IRCToo IRC Network (irc.irctoo.net) - it is not very busy irc network but it is very stable irc network... over 10 servers and only 1000+ clients online..

I have registered #DirectAdmin for you.

I think its a great idea, especially in situations where live communication would make troubleshooting problems much easier.
Of course it wouldn't be official and if you didn't want to help you wouldn't have to and you don't have to be there any certain times, just as you want.

Hi,

I'm the biggest shellhosting provider in the Netherlands, able to host it for free :D.

I also have a preconfigured network, but if anybody has time to install an IRCD + services, maybe John wants to link irc.directadmin.com to that place. ;)

Personally I'd be happier using an existing network such as Quakenet, as I'm already logged onto it 24/7 anyway..

Jep, is that really you ?
Uhhm, servicez.org, right :D

Didn't knew you used DA...

As far as the question: I don't know, already am online at 3 different IRC servers (idleing :D), perhaps for isn't a real problem. As long as the chan isn't invite only or something that needs me to do more than a /s irc.....com -j #<chan>. As said before: I need to earn some money by doing something usefull with my time...

yes an existing network would be best..like dal.net or anything where we do not need a bot to moderate the channel. (anything with authserv i guess)

But what if random supporters can make the difference for you, they could even slve alot of problems which otherwise would be posted here and costed you also alot of time.

I understand you completely as i am in a same sort of situation, but i do believe that starting a channel (which we dont ask you to be on 24/7) but just for the visitors who come and people who like to share their knowledge helping others

after all, i DO think that is a great idea
