AOL has blacklisted me on one of there servers. I get this error.

Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host mailin-04.mx.aol.com [205.188.159.217]: 421-:
(DYN:T1) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dynt1.html
421 SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE

Looking at Dnsstuff.com my server IP is completely clean there. I imagine some email coming from one of my users was reported as junk mail by an AOL user. Could be I have a user infected with a virus or something. So 2 days ago now I submited a feedback loop request on the IP of my email server. Supposed to forward a copy of complaints to me. Have heard nothing back. Try to check status on my feedback loop many times since then which is supposed to send an automated email back. No response. Emailed [email protected] yesterday no response. Still blocked though.

Is there an easy way to tell Exim to use a different IP for outgoing email?

What now?

fwiw, and the record, I've started seeing this lately also; my hope is that AOL broke something by being too agressive; and since they give absolutely no guidance as to what exactly their problem is, or evidence for it, then my next hope is that their users leave them.

Real number for AOL postmaster support

AHhhhh yes we faced that same problem as well with NUMEROUS customers...

Now let me hand off a little bit of information here...

Enjoy the number, keep it in a safe place too ! We added it to our CRM as we will get this over, and over, and over again !

Just found it!

In the transports section of exim.conf there is a section:

Code:
remote_smtp:
  driver = smtp

add the line:
Code:
 interface = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address to use.

Then restart EXIM (from the directadmin control panel)

Will exim still listen for incoming connections on all IP's?

According to my reading of the documentation, this setting should only affect delivery of mail to external servers.

In my case, the IP I have set for my remote_smtp is otherwise unused. The server still appears to be accepting mail for all accounts. So, to the best of my knowledge, the answer is 'yes, it will'.

That is Great, I will give it a shot! Took AOL 2 weeks to fix the kast problem I had, I will try this as a temporary work around next time.

Read the entire postmaster.aol.com site and you'll find out how to agree to receive warnings from them in exchange for them not blocking you.

For what it's worth, the biggest problem is your own users, who forward all their incoming mail to their AOL account.

Then when they read all the spam that also gets forwarded to their AOL account along with their legitimate email, they click on the "SPAM" button.

So AOL presumes the spam is from your server.

100% agree with you there! We run into this all the time at the office with customers. It gets rather annoying cause they just don't understand, no matter how you try to explain the the process to them.

Here's a copy of the email we send to clients who are serious offenders:
Did you report an email as spam to AOL today?

AOL sent us a TOS violation for sending one of their clients spam.

They did NOT identify you.

But our logs showed that the email in question was sent by a spammer to
your domain hosted with us, and then forwarded by your forward settings
to your AOL account.

Please do NOT report email to AOL as spam that has been forwarded to
your AOL account from a domain account hosted with us.

Continued reporting of email relayed by your request from our server to
your account at AOL is a violation of our Terms of Service and may
result in cancellation of your webhosting account.

Sincerely,
I bet you can do better :) .

Jeff

Go for it.

If you'd be kind enough to post your changes, I might like them enough to change what I send out :) .
