Having just lost my entire server due to a hard disk crash and not having backups except on the same disk (stoopid or what!) I have had a second drive installed on the server.

Is there an 'idiots guide' anywhere on how to configure this second drive etc so that I can perform a daily system and user file incremental backup.

I see in DA that there is a system backup feature but I don't know what I need to do to specify the 2nd drive as the target. At the moment is refers to $MOUNT_POINT/backup (double dutch to me).

I have SSH access to root and can follow instructions :)

Thanks for any help

Steve

The system backup doesn't backup the entire drive; it backs up the stuff DA needs for a restore. But there's no built-in restore solution.

I responded to a similar post within the last week so I'm not going into detail; the information is here in the forums.

But...

To use the DA system backup (sysbk) to backup to the second drive you have to make sure your drive is mounted as a directory name, and then change that $MOUNT_POINT/backup setting to /whatever where "whatever" is the name of the directory that constitutes your second drive.
