As admin i'm newby. ( i managed to handle DA boxes several years now only with reading in this forum thanks for that. 
But you know updating a very old box to real new , with exporting importing users, user backups and so on, could be a .. in the ....
So tell your BOSs.
Much more time doing this installing a new Box and configuring newsets updates builds and best settings, if best then also pushing it if not 100% compatible with applications on old box.
Resellers / Users have to be prepared to ( force) update their aplications then. ( because insecure old not supported and so on) if they don't want let them on old box pay you a lot of money wen clean up their hacked apllications, and also more fee for keeping up the old box special for them. ( let them sign a contract for/about this)
Have to move if no support contract these themselves or against payment.
If they do want to update after that message you can offer them payed support to handle to moving.
Why al this.
Because of the very very many errors old apllications websites can give, see this forum, and that is why this message from me.
Probable the most simple e.g htacces filter compress is diferent in newer apache causing al websites using old notation a error. if so solution http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22475131/htaccess-filterprovider-giving-error-500
As Admin / Reseller you can't if no support contract update all apllications websites for your users after a backup update restore project for free i think, you can give them some time and the choice to move all themselves with if needed payed support.
Then also you have yourself more time to install and update the new box more efficiënt. I don't mean less time with this. But newer and better settings futures and more. The old is running as long is needed and if so extra payed for the old old wanting custommers
Testing apllications websites could they do then in a safe way with more time to solve issues ( host file ip (WINDOS) set to new server )
Lookout with ioncube coded apllications they are cworking only in combinations with some ioncube version combined with php versions sometimes have to ask the aplication developer to update or give a newer version with newer ioncube.. before moving such ask and double check
I forgot most important, you have time then for custommers with support to do it in the free spare time because no hurrry and mess as in the only 1 update once projects. (yes backup export import in DA is fine , but can't handle all compatibillity problems of user applications if very old)

If new clean mailaccounts then also mail is a little easier to comply newer rules with serverwide settings for spf, dkim, dmarc, ipv6
