Hi there to all (for a start -> first post)

Here's me question. When im deleting files from the file manager page, my disk usage doesn't fall and if i enter the URL of hte file i can still access it:confused:  ???

Is there some sort of recycle bin or something that i have to delete it from or am i doing some thing wrong when i try to delete it?

{I select the file by the tick box on the right and click delete at the bottem of the page, then "OK" to confirm the deletion}

Cheers guys.

Are any errors given?
You need to contact your hosting provider about the problem, or do you have root access to the server?

I have exactly the same problem.
I deleted everything out of my account, no du change.

where should I see errors? The deleting itself went with no problem (through DA file manager)

sorry to be just out of sync. I am a bit of a newbie. Where do I see the DA version? I believe the server is Linux but don't ask me the version since I wouldn't know.

Well, I do not have that. By chance I found under the thrid header 'advanced features' the server information, that gives me da version 1.24.4

Then you only have access to the user level. You will also need to contact your hosting provider since they are the only ones that can update DirectAdmin to the latest version.

well then I am lost in the dark. My hosting party is a disaster. This is what I was afraid of when starting the site. But it also disapoints me to receive a file manager that does not allow me to manage my files..

Options:
a. Get your host to upgrade DirectAdmin which could be the problem
b. Have them troubleshoot and solve the problem
c. Find a new host.

I'm using DA v1.26.2 . I can see all files at Admin level as I'm the webmaster. Because its a scouting website, its hosted on a dedicated Server in Essex, UK.

Apollo,
I just gave it a try in 1.26.2 and it worked on Debian. What OS are you running and do DirectAdmin's logs have anything useful? Errors for example.

What are the ownership settings on the files you're trying to delete? They should be username:username

Edit: your -> you're (again and again and again)

Let's start over again...

When you delete files from the file-manager, if they look as if they're gone, they are gone.

If you can still see them on your site in your browser that's probably because the browser has them cached.

If you see no difference in your space usage that's probably because DA isn't updating your space usage immediately, or because your local system is caching that data or those images as well.

Ive just checked that a file has been deleted and it appears to have done so. I'm on a computer that has only just been booted up for the first time and i can view the file (impossible for it to be in an empty cache) so......?

This thread is posted under Admin-Level Difficulties so I presume you're a system administrator.

Log in using the shell account, su to root, and check the directory from the shell.

If you're not a system administrator, but rather an end user with a website, let us know.

Thanks.

Jeff
