DirectAdmin v1.647 RC

Autodiscover for Outlook would also be great
This release does have zero-config automatic auto-discover for Outlook and Thunderbird. However the problem with Outlook is that latest versions does not perform auto-configuration even if remote web server implements https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/p...1507(v=office.14)#the-autodiscover-xml-schema. It is possible to force it to use it by editing some windows registry entries but we did not yet found a clean solution for the problem yet so we are not advertising this as a feature.

If you have PRO-PACK and mail_autoconfig=1 in directadmin.conf, you do automatically get what could be done manually by following https://docs.directadmin.com/other-hosting-services/email/autodiscover.html

@Richard G thanks for pointing out default document root being domains/{domain}/public_html/{sub}. I have edited my post to use correct path.

@Erulezz latest PHP versions are already in alpha, and beta. Channel current will get it with final DA 1.647 release, and stable with bump to DA 1.646.

@copernic, the Icons grid layout is not removed it is still available.

We removed a special menu mode in Refreshed layout. Refreshed layout has a menu on the left side. This menu used to have a mode where menu is replaced by a hovering area taking 3/4 of the screen area filled with icons. The menu was not always visible and would appear only when menu icon is hovered. It was really poor from the user experience:
  • Impossible to access from mobile devices
  • When expanded it hides most of the page contents
  • It was not able to fit all the icons into screen and needed separate scrollbar just for the overlay area.
  • Most of the DA users were not even aware this mode exists.
Based on you message I was not quite sure if you are not mixing up the Icons grid layout and the Refreshed menu grid mode.

Refreshed layout - menu grid mode (removed in DA 1.647):

For Refreshed layout menu - menu grid mode users we recommend switching to the Icons grid layout.

No, I didn't mix the two interfaces, but the icon grid layout has a 90's look, not very attractive.
On the other hand, the grid layout (in Updated layout - menu grid mode) has a very appealing look that appeals to customers (mainly the presentation of the right pane)

You will tell me that I can improve it via CSS, but honestly, I don't have the time nor the desire to do it when a layout already exists (and will disappear in version 1.647)
For me, it's a pure and simple regression and reminds me of a certain panel that imposes its new interface that everyone dislikes.

Thanks for clarification. The grid layout is useful as a separate page or a widget in the dashboard but not as a menu substitute. This is visible in your screenshot that you are not actually using an overlay but pinned to dashboard mode. In preparations for this mode deprecation we considered adding it as a dashboard widget if we actually receive any requests for that.

I will record your post as a vote for having grid menu available in the dashboard (y).

Thanks for the update.

The last time I dealt with this, about half a year ago, autoconfig for Thunderbird was easy and ran in half a day. I have since removed that and use the autoconfig integration in DA. As for autodiscovery, even after 3 days I could not get it to work correctly (get it only done for outlook 2003-2016), but I noticed that the requests to the web server are not coming from the client but from Microsoft Azure (?!?), I also noticed that customers with MacOS (latest version) with Outlook (latest version) go through Microsoft in the UK, I always see only English Microsoft IP's in the logs no matter where the customer is located, but I only notice this with Macs of the latest generation.

Does the autodiscovery feature only exist in this release? I've never heard of mail_autoconfig=1 in directadmin.conf, is that also new or did I miss it? How does this work? Via a socket like the autoconfig integration for Thunderbird? Registry tinkering is not an option, I just wonder why AD works on the cP servers even with the latest outlooks? I see an external service there, but all attempts to connect it to DA have failed. We really need AD for DA, i.e. as in the old days, 60% of support requests, customers are simply unable to configure their Outlook, despite instructions with pictures.

Thanks for the feedback @copernic, refreshed layout menu grid mode is replaced with ability to switch between dashboard widgets or grid with all pages. It honors the old customization settings so anyone who used pinned menu grid mode before will automatically see a grid mode dashboard.

Here is a preview (red line highlights a toggle between modes):

Issues reported by @apogee are now resolved.

Option mail_autoconfig=1 is introduced in this release. It works by proxying auto discover requests to internal DA socket.

@fln, thank you for considering my request, this will help me a lot to switch the remaining customers from the old panel.
