Greetings,

I'm pretty new to this environment and wondering if I can help some help from someone out there.

I colocated a server today.
They gave me 5 IP addresses and gw, and 2 DNS ips

I setup DA today but are having issues with setting up nameservers

First, I went to godaddy (my registrar) to setup ns1 and ns2 with the corresponding DNS ip that was given to me by the ISP
-Question.. is that how am suppose to set it up? use their DNS IP address for my ns1 and ns2 at godaddy?

I then went to the reseller section of DA and created the 2 nameservers with the 2 available IP address. Then create a domain, but then it's been days but my domain is still not working.

Can someone please point me to the right direction?

ThankS!

I did that also at godaddy. Complicated panel, inexistent support, It took almost 4 days before the nameservers resolve.

Yes. I did the same thing. And it worked.

You may take a look at this post: http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37909

Also, go to intodns.com and check your domain name.

Best regards
Themis

PS: I you still have a hard time configuring your nameservers, send a message at DA support. They helped me a lot!

You've both managed to confuse me.

Generally when your upstream (is that what you mean by the ISP?) gives you two IP#s it's so you can put them in your /etc/resolv.conf file, and use them to resolve; outside domains; it's generally NOT for your own server.

So when you register your own domain name you should be using the DNS servers you're using for authoritative DNS for your domain.

Which may be two IP#s pointing to your server.

So I'd appreciate it if you'll answer this question:

When you write
and 2 DNS ips
do you mean two IP#s which answer on your server? Or two IP#s to use for resolving outside domains?

Alternatively if you give us the domain name and all the IP#s, I can look it up myself.

Thanks all I got it resolved.

The problem for those who wants to know and for future searches:

On godaddy, I mapped the ns1 and ns2 to the DNS name servers that the ISP gave me! that's why it did not work.

What I did was mapped the ns1 and ns2 that I created at the registrar to the 2 IPs that I created/added on the reseller section of DA.

Thanks for your help. I have a quick question. during the setup, I mistyped the nameservers so now everytime I added a domain name, it automatically assigned that typo nameservers. I did try to correct it under the reseller section but it does not seem to correct the issue.
any help?

Thanks all

The reseller section is probably only working for new users. For old users, first log in as the reseller, then modify the user to fix the nameserver names.

I don't recall if you need to change DNS setting manually or not; you should check.

I login as "admin" - the only user
and corrected it but I can't get it to change. It's still showing the old typo nameservers

Where is it showing it? Without the domain name, the name of the proper nameservers, and the nameservers it's using which are in error, I cannot help you further.

I'm posting here as I have a similar problem.

I've set up DA, it's working, every service is running ok.
On the clean DA:
- added some IPs
- added a reseller, and made it use the IP;s. In IP Management it shows he;s the owner of those 3 IPs
- added the nameserver ns14.privatenameserver.net and ns15... with the first 2 IPs I just assigned.
- added a client with a domain name, recieved the welcome e-mail.
Problem:
the client's website is not loading and neither does www.privatenameserver.net
The ns14 IP ends with 201
As far as DNS management is concerned, everything looks fine (similar to what I currently have in cPanel).

What can be the problem?

Solved.

As it turns out named service did not restart.
None of my services restart automatically.
If anyone has any ideas why not, please share.

Under what circumstances do they not restart?

When you restart them from the command line?

When DirectAdmin should automaticaly restart them (for example after adding a domain)?

When they've been stopped in the control panel?

What OS are you running?

What command do you use from the command line to start or restart a service?
