Domain was not properly erased

Hi!
recently decided to erase a domain
from my DA box, so I used the Direct Admin control panel for this task.

However the DNS server of my box still finds the records of that domain inside itself.
 
You'll have to edit the named/bind database files deleting the .db file(s) and the include from the configuration file.

What version of DirectAdmin are you running and on what Operating System?

Why not just delete the DNS zone from the admin DNS control panel?

Good point Jeff. It's always just been standard procedure to do it through the command line.

(Wow, never realised how much I prefer using it over a graphical interface for some tasks :eek: )
 
I am running DA 1.26.2 over Redhat 9.

What I finally had to do is restart the named service.

(?) I have never had to do so...

I prefer the command line as well; you probably realize that :) .

But most admins on these forums probably feel a lot more at home from the DA interface.

I don't know why you'd have to restart DNS for that to happen, but I do know that deleting a domain doesn't (or at least didn't, in prior versions) delete the DNS zone.

And if the zone still exists you've got two problems...

First, if the domain is hosted elsewhere and you use your own server for DNS resolution you can't send anything to that domain.

Second, DA won't let you add the domain again because searching the DNS zones is how it determines if the domain is already on the server.

The zones in fact where deleted as soon as the domain account was erased with Direct Admin. In summary the DA function worked fine.

However I still don´t know why it was necesary to restart the names/bind service
 
Can you restart named through DirectAdmin's service monitor?

hehe, I mean can you (yourself) restart through DirectAdmin succesfully?

If you can and future domain removals do not restart named it could be a bug.
