How to install Roundcubemail (webmail alternative)

Installed, and it's working. Thanks for great howto, and a great tip.

I have an error in the background when browsing mail however:

I have directory ./logs and the file 'errors' is owned and writable by apache.

...only issue so far, however :)

Edited: Error appears when viewing big mailboxes only. I tested with mailbox with 50 emails, and there was no error.

Note: I have caching turned on

this problem is due to the logs not being writable.

I think it is fixed in the new CVS, or you can create that file and give permission to write to it or just disable loggin in the rc config file.

I have also written a squirrelmail user and address book to round cube mail importer script. This will grab any users that have logged into squirrelmail on your system, import them and their address books into the roundcube mail system.

you can grab it here: http://www.thinkwebmedia.com/roundcube/rc.tar.gz

let me know what you think,

Hi Van - saw your script in the RC dev. list, and bookmarked it. Will do an import as soon as the next CVS version or 0.2 is available. Then I'll actually switch a few of my accounts over to RC. Will let you know how I get on then :)

Excellent script Vandal! Worked like a charm on the latest CVS snapshot (5 Feb. 2006) of RC, and all address books seem to be imported. At the ned the script freezes at the bottom (after saying "Finished Import") but that might have been for me only, and it doesn't seem to have mattered.

Thanks!

...this is an awesome webmail. And according to the dev list the search should be ready pretty soon as well :)

Great to hear man. What kind of freezing? like stalling?

how many accounts did you import?

Glad it worked well for you as well, once RC gets more stable i can say bye bye to squirrelmail forever.

I imported about 70 accounts. It didn't really freeze towards the end, it just stalled. My browser was still trying to connect, but there were no more accounts to import. I waited for about 5 minutes, then closed the browser window. No big issue, really.

I already replaced Squirrel with latest RC cvs after the import yesterday. I still have a link on the login page to Squirrel, but I'm hoping people will switch straight away, especially since their data has been moved as well.

Receive ok but problem to send mail

Hi all,

After install RoundCubeMail, I'm able to receive mail from anywhere but have a little problem to send mail with the error message as follows:

[18-Feb-2006 15:00:15] PHP Warning: mail() [<a href='function.mail'>function.mail</a>]: SMTP server response: 550 550 Delivery is not allowed to this address. in H:\wamp\www\roundcubemail\program\steps\mail\sendmail.inc on line 199

If anyone, used RoundCubeMail with hMailServer, and especially with WampServer 5 package, gives me some tips, please.

Thanks a million,

yfastud

Sorry if my post was in the wrong place.

Anyway, I have a little prolbem with SMTP setup. Any help would be welcomes.

Thanks,

yfastud

If you're a DirectAdmin owner/user/admin, we'll be happy to help you but you'll have to ask a specific question.

How can a webmail with no spellcheck be better then anything you have used? While I like RC, it lacks a lot of basic things.

it's beta software. Features will come in time, however it may be a nice alternative for customers who hate squirrelmail which for me is a large portion.

Converted fully to Roundcube Webmail

I have actually changed my default webmail for my whole server to Roundcube now, after three months of testing (still offering Squirrel and Uebi though). I'm running a CVS snapshot from three weeks ago, which includes search functionality, and the webmail is stable.

For anyone looking for extra features for Roundcube, like spellcheck - have a look in www.roundcubeforum.net, and participate in the discussion, and write howto guides and patches.

For monitoring the development, have a look at the dev list on http://lists.roundcube.net/

I have also installed this on a second server and no one but the default user can login. Any ideas?
