Install Directadmin on the Centos Stream 8 Problem ! (Restart crash OS or VM "Host SMBus controller bus not enabled")

Hello,

I have been experiencing Centos Stream 8 crashing problem after Directadmin installation for the last 3 days. I tried the original ISO file on Hetzner servers and the ISO file I downloaded via centos.org.
I tried at least 30 times on the normal Dedicated server and VMware Virtual Server.
I also tried Centos Stream 8 Minimal or Standard Server installations.
Centos Stream 8 works normally on its own. When the dedicated server or virtual server restarts, the Login screen appears smoothly. SSH and sFTP connections are working.

I failed in more than 30 attempts. (I only use the original automatic setup command) After directadmin is installed, when Centos restarts, it does not open again.

On the dedicated server: Kernel Panic error occurs and the operating system crashes.
On the VMware virtual server, it gives the error "Host SMBus controller bus not enabled" and does not open again.

I tried many solutions on Google.
to the file named "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf"
I added "blacklist i2c-piix4" and restarted. didn't get better
and then on another forum it was written that using "blacklist i2c_piix4" would work. it didn't work again. It is mentioned as Centos 8 VM error in Google forums. But this definitely seems to be an issue with directadmin.

In case the dedicated server went down, the Hetzner Support team replaced the server completely.
I bought another server. So I tested it on 3 different hardware in total.
After installing directadmin on all servers, I restart it and it does not open again.

The command I use:
wget -O setup.sh directadmin.com/setup.sh
chmod 755 setup.sh
./setup.sh xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (license code)

I don't know if anyone has a similar problem. I will try it with Centos 7.9 now.

I have been using directadmin for 9 years. I've probably done a installation 1000 times so far. To avoid making mistakes, I follow the installation instructions on the official websites exactly every time.

Depends on which php versions you want to use. I would advise Alma 9. However, then you can't use php < php 8.1 because of OpenSSL 3.0.
This is fixed in the newest DA beta release, so older versions can be used when this is released.

However... I'm not sure if Hetzner has Almalinux 9 available yet. I think it does now.

As for the installation command, yes that's the same as first downloading and then using the command seperately so that is not the problem.

Hetzner should state why the server is not booting again if this will also happen on Alma Linux.
 
I am not experiencing any problems with Centos Stream 9 right now. The installation was completed without any problems. It restarts without any problems.

I can't install PHP 7.4 with just CUSTOMBUILD. PHP 7.4 Support > Directadmin Beta 1.657 (aa282043f7809054a5b18e1e839716062ba2e621)

Centos S8 issue still persists.

Are you using the AX series (Hetzner dedicated server)?
IF so, don't bother installing the 8.x series (CentOS, Almalinux), as the kernel doesn't handle the hardware correctly (recent on this range of dedicated servers).
Try Almalinux 9 instead, in my case Debian 11 (kernel 5.x) worked perfectly.

Oh so a kernel issue. This was not known to me. However, this should be known by Hetzner in that case. On which Almal 8 version is that, or on all Alma 8 kernels?
Good to know this as we had a radio server which we upgraded recently and also had a kernel update. This is a Alma 8 server.
After the update icecast went down and a special version of icecast needed to be installed so things kept working.

However, for the rest there aren't any issues with this server. But it's not a real recent one, it's an AX41.

Debian 11... well... don't break open my mouth with some things I experienced and a couple of others others here with MariaDB on Debian 11 which suddenly went crazy after a normal DA update.
Hence the comment of @ericosman LoL. :D

Well, I bought it from auction with a normal Intel 8700 processor. Normally there was no problem. I restarted and it froze. It did not open again. Manual reset didn't work either. Then I reinstalled 10 times :). Each time, after installing directadmin, the server never started again when I tried to restart. I reported a malfunction. They gave me a new server. It didn't get better. I just purchased a new server from an auction. I have now switched to vmware esxi . When I create a virtual server, Centos S8 does not start again after the initial installation screen and the restart command :). I switched to centos S9. Directadmin Beta (with php 7.4 support) and centos s9 work fine. i added example server Screen Shot

Some of my websites only work with php 7.4. Many of my websites give database errors. Centos S9 does not fully support PHP 7.4. I need to rebuild my websites. very frustrating.

It not only gives a database error, but also a critical error warning on some sites. Even if I update WordPress files, themes and plugins, it doesn't work. they only work with centos 8 php 7.4.2. I have always used the latest version of the database. MariaDB 10.6 (latest version allowed by diretdmin). It is in beta with 7.4.33 support for Centos s9.

I had advised you to use Almalinux (8 or 9 doesn't matter) why insisting with Stream ?
 
my experience with hetzner ax101 - I installed proxmox, and created VM with almalinux8 for DA. All works fine + I have snapshots :)
on same hardware Cloudlinux8 in another DC works fine (clean OS, not modified kernel).

If the same website works with PHP 7.4 on RHEL 8 system, but does not work on RHEL 9 please fill an issue and we will investigate this further.
 
Hello sir. The problem on the websites is caused by the old WordPress core.
Thank you for your interest and quick response.

I have installed the Centos S8 offered by Hetzner 30 times in total. Each time the directadmin installation is completed and after restarting the system the server crashes. It usually gives a kernel panic error and sometimes other warnings appear.

I created a virtual server with VM ESXI 8. I downloaded Centos S8 DVD1 and selected Server from the installation setting. The Centos kernel installs and runs smoothly every time. However, immediately after installing DirectAdmin, Centos does not open again on the Virtual Server and starts giving a kernel panic error.

I spoke with the Hetzner support team. I created many tickets. They say the problem is not caused by them.

I am currently working smoothly with centos S9 and directadmin beta. I updated WordPress cores. Website errors fixed.

note: maybe the problem is in the system version CentOS-Stream-8-20231127.0-x86_64-dvd1.

Whats about the Host SMBus controller bus? Is it enabled on the hardware, or is there a virtualized version in VMware? Seems that is the core of the problem.
