LIFETIME MEANS UNTIL I’M DEAD!!!!!!!!!

I’ve had my license since 2005. It’s 2026 now and last I checked I’M STILL BREATHING so the deal is NOT OVER. You sold a lifetime product which means you keep it running and keep it updated until I’m in the ground. That’s a binding legal contract!! Now I’m hearing you guys are just "stopping" work on these licenses?? NO YOU ARE NOT. You can't just take my money and then decide the deal is finished because you're lazy.

Also my old datacenter went bust so move my key to my personal email RIGHT NOW. I paid for it as part of my server so it is MY property. You can't refuse the transfer and you can't stop the updates. That is straight up THEFT and FRAUD. Fix my account and keep the updates coming or I'm taking this to a lawyer. I didn't pay for a 20 year rental I paid for FOREVER.

Dude... get a life and check the internet what lifetime in software means. You're still using windows 95 too right? ;)
Anyway, software is still working, even some updates, you can just not use it anymore with new softaware but DA itself still works.

There are already a couple of threads with complete discussions about this, read those first, totally no use to start a new one. Good luck with the laywer too.

you still get the current update / fixed security/bug, what do you want from the lifetime ? New imba feature without paying ? 😒

dont call me dude.

windows 95 wasn't sold as a lifetime deal you absolute clown. and saying the software still works but just not on new systems is you admitting its broken. if i update my OS and it stops working because they abandoned development, then they killed the product I legally paid for.

a contract is a contract. Im not dead yet so development doesn't stop. i dont care how many other threads you guys have justifying getting ripped off.

Since you’re such an expert, find me the legal definition where "lifetime" means "until the next OS update bricks it." You can't. Case closed, moron.

I felt exactly the same way at first and still do. But if I had enough money to hire the right lawyer to take this on I wouldn't be using DirectAdmin at all. It will cost more to fight it. I do agree with you in principle. However if you have a lifetime warrantee on a car if would not be for your life but for the useable life of the car. Lifetime license for DA would be for the life of this DA product. What they should have done is retired this product and started a new product. But they handle this very badly. No notification to clients. But its still better than anything else for the price.

total bs on that explanation. they can only rebrand after I die. lifetime means MY life, not some fake product life the devs made up to rip people off. comparing this to a car is stupid because code doesn't rust. they dont get to retire a promise and slap a new name on it to dodge a contract. that is a scam. i bought this in 2005 and i am still breathing in 2026 so they owe me. stop defending corporate theft.

lifetime means MY life
Whahaha and you call -me- stupid. Ever heard of EOL declaration? Would you rather see that then? Because that's also an option and it's fully legal. Happened with other lifetime licenses too of other products. That is normal in software land.
Only thing I can agree on is that they did not inform their customers properly.

find me the legal definition where "lifetime" means "until the next OS update bricks it." You can't. Case closed
Same closed for you, as you won't be able to find me the legal definition where "lifetime" means your physical life for a license product. :D
But no problem I will stop writing to you anyway.

Whahaha and you call -me- stupid. Ever heard of EOL declaration?

are you an imbecile?

EOL is for normal licenses. lifetime means there is NO end of life until i am dead. that is LITERALLY the point of the word.

this is a lifetime DEBT. you cannot say EOL to cancel a debt. period.

as for the other guy who says its not worth suing. maybe not for you but it would be for others. guaranteed.

imagine if a 20 year old bought a lifetime license. that's 60 years of specialized development debt they are owed. maybe even longer if that 20 year old lives past 80.

60 years of dev labor is worth hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of dollars.

absolutely yes it is worth suing if each license means you are owed millions. and any lawyer worth their salt would be begging to take this for free just to get a cut of a multi-million dollar judgment.

Great to see that I'm writig with the kindergarten. I had a vBulletin lifetime license, also declared EOL and this can happen with any license including lifetime licenses.
You should wait until you get to primary school and learn something, including using language on a forum.

windows10 also is lifetime license, but you still can use it.... no more update... even they promise the updating longer longer on this version, but they still make windows11 🤣

LoL, let's first wait what is going to happen. I'm almost sure MS will win this lawsuit.

I overlooked this:
Also my old datacenter went bust so move my key to my personal email RIGHT NOW. I paid for it as part of my server so it is MY property.
NOT your property. You were making use of an internal license, property of the datacenter which rent or sold it to you as part of the server contract.
In fact... You don't have ANY contract with DA nore did you buy at any time a license from DA.
Next to that, datacenter either violated the terms with selling that license to you, or if it's done legally, you should have been informed that you can only use that license in that datacenter as long as that is owned by the original datacenter selling this license to you.

Shortly said, you don't have any rights, you didn't buy a license from DA so you don't have any contract with DA. Take it up with that datacenter, they probably fooled you, that is not on DA. And if they are out of business, well bad luck for you.

WHMCS also lifetime license, also not updating anymore by the way, there are so many examples.

it WAS part of a server contract. stop assuming there was violations on my part. or maybe YOU will be on the receiving end of a defamation lawsuit.

i said THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS.

that means there is STILL A LIFETIME LICENSE THAT I PAID FOR.

i did not say give me a NEW LICENSE.

i said TRANSFER WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE TO MY PERSONAL ACCOUNT.

it is THEFT to keep a license from the rightful customer. a license 100% paid in full.

jon, please for the love of god, act like a decent human.
The only thing i see you do is scream and shout, question: did you buy your license back in the days from DA? Or did it come with a rented server?

Relax, breath in breath out.

So if i see it correct, it was / is like this:

You rented a server with a DA license (lifetime) from lets say “random server company” correct?

yes but its IRRELEVANT. when I rented the server i paid for a LIFETIME license as well.

at THAT VERY MOMENT i became owed a debt of license and updates forever

did you even bother to read my post?

im saying TRANSFER TO ME WHAT ALREADY EXISTS AND I PREPAID FOR LIFETIME

if i prepay lifetime of CANNED BEANS and the grocery store goes out of business its IRRELEVANT because the beans company still has to deliver me the beans.

do any of you have brains? im not ASKING FOR A GIFT. just what I paid for.

yes but its IRRELEVANT. when I rented the server i paid for a LIFETIME license as well.
No it's not IRRELEVANT, it is relevant.... why? Because you made a deal with "random server company", they might have told you "Yeah bro lifetime means untill your last breath" ;-)

*NOTE I'M FILLING THIS IN* To DirectAdmin you are nobody.... why? Because when they look in their client system you are not there.

did you even bother to read my post?
Yeah i do read them, with a bucket of popcorn

im saying TRANSFER TO ME WHAT ALREADY EXISTS AND I PREPAID FOR LIFETIME
Well we are mostly just users, we cant move stuff, only admins can do that, but i dont know how things went in life for you.... but i did learn to be nice and say pretty please and not "SCREAM".

do any of you have brains? im not ASKING FOR A GIFT. just what I paid for.
According to my wife i don't, checked with the doctor and i do have a brain.

Depends on who you have the contract with.

Love you, kisses... and have a nice evening.
