No edit?

I am kind of new at this website and all the pages I try to build, besides my home that was already made, don't have an edit button. I am not sure if this is a glitch or if I am just doing something wrong. Can someone help me, please?

What is the extension of the file you're trying to edit? Text based files that are set as "text/plain" in the /etc/mime.types should be set to have an edit button, as well as the usual other files like html, php, cgi, pl etc...
