Please help me with DirectAdmin

I am a first-time user of DirectAdmin. I need to do a lot of stuff that was easy in Plesk that I am finding hard to do in DirectAdmin.

First, how do I assign IP addresses to a specific domain name? I have 5 IP addresses available, I'd like to use two for one of my domain names, and two for another domain name. How can I do this? I've been looking throughout the control panel in IP Management and DNS Management but can't figure out how to assign or add the IPs to the domain name (IPs are for specific domain names and shouldn't be shared throughout the server for all sites).

My second question is regarding MX Records: how can I change MX records to efficiently cover these:

I need to use MX 1, 5, 5, 10, 10, 10, 10. I currently see in DirectAdmin that i can only choose MX records for 0, 10, 20, and up.

From the page you've linked you missed this bit of text:

You may not be able to enter the priority value exactly as it appears in the table below -- if you can't, make sure each record follows the indicated order.

so you can use 0, 10, 20, 30, etc..

The only thing that matters with MX priorities, is just that the priority, not the number itself. A lower number has higher priority, so as long as the numbers show up in the same order it's fine.

Attached is a screenshot of my settings...why are the 20's before the 10's? I submitted the 10's before the 20's.

Hello,

The table is sorted by the Name, not the Value.
AL comes before AS alphabetically.
If you click "Value", then the order of the table changes.
Has nothing to do with the order you added it, it's just cosmetic.

For your question about IPs, domains (users) can have only 1 IP address. Having 2 IP addresses for 1 domain on the same server wouldn't serve much purpose, but regardless even if you wanted 2, DA isn't setup for 2 IPs for 1 domain.
If you just mean you have 2 servers, then just go to the Admin Level -> DNS Administration -> domain.com after it's created, and add a 2nd A record for the other IP.

As fo how to set a particular IP to a User (the owner of the doamin), first make sure the creator of that user (eg "admin") has control over the IP.
Go to Admin Level -> IP Manager. Select a free unassigned IP, and click the "Assign To" button with the "admin" account selected. This gives "admin" the ability to assign it to a specific User.
Once admin has it, then go to:
Reseller Level -> List Users -> username -> modify username's User data (button at the top).
Select the new IP and hit "save".

Note that if you want to change the IP that the admin account is using, use the same basic steps, except use:
Reseller Level -> List Users -> "modify your own user data" isntead to assign the IP.

If you want 2 domains with 2 different IPs, then you'd need at least 2 different accounts, as there is a max of 1 IP per User.

Well I have 5 IPs available for sites on my server. I am the adminstrator, and main (only) user also.

Can I then just assign one different IP per domain? If not, you really should consider this feature.

Please help me get this situated.

If all domains are to have different IPs, then they'd need to be broken into different User accounts. The issue has been brought up before, it just requires a fairly major overhaul to get it working correctly for more than 1 IP per User.

Well that does not make a lot of sense! I REALLY suggest adding this feature in the next update:
- Admins receive pool (list) of IPs available on server
- Admin can assign multiple IPs to user account
- User accounts can choose which IP is assigned to a site
- IPs can be shared or dedicated (shared=available to more than one domain, dedicated=for one domain/site)

- Reseller can assign one IP# per user to multiple users

As John wrote, it would be a major amount of rewriting to allow users to have multiople IP#s; I doubt it's going to make it into the next update.

Smart but the rewrite should definitely happen soon...it'll really make DirectAdmin a tough competitor to Plesk!

I have a new question now:
Is there anyway I can move an account/site files and database from one user to another?

I set up a site on my admin account...I should have set it up on its own seperate account. Is there anyway I can do this without reuploading/losing everything?

Is there someway I can transfer an entire domain (site files, MX records settings, and database) from one user to another or something?
