restore system backup

I think that ADMIN must have the posibility to make "user_backups" of all the users on the server, including resellers.
System backup help to restore single files, but it's very tough to restore the hole system.

I agree, every other CP does this why not DA?

I'm still considering using DA at some point, no pun intended but their attitude seems to be non-customer centric.

Almost every feature request is replied to with "we don't have time"

"not enough interest"
"the current way works fine for me"

etc....

Perhaps if you build it, they will come?

Then, you could become a 4psa for DirectAdmin. :)

Personally I'm not that impressed - I'd rather DA provided this kind of utility as part of the system.

easier backup/restore, less permissions on apache (files in public_html should be ran as user or nobody not apache), a function to limit and allow types of scripting per client, a function to allow chroot shell, and just more panel interface settings period is what I would like to see in direct admin.
I like direct admin because you can run all new server software and such and its fast and secure but with those things it would be much better.

For example on the apache thing, say you wanted a free site service where you use one domain for free sites, etc; If someone uploaded a shell to one of those domains they can rise above their folder and upload and write to what they want. And before anyone offers any suggestion on config most shells now will work with safe mode on. But I guess Im just a security minded person.

Of course I and other people would be willing to pay or pay more with features like that

I totally agree. If you have a box without resellers (only individual users under "admin") you can easily restore it in another box in minutes . The restore system is great.

We need the same for the resellers .

Then you can restore it in the same machine with same os or with other so or in other machine .

Other suggestion in the Reseller Level/Backup , create the dir in the remote ftp with the date in the name .

Thanks

PD.

Server-to-Server Account Transfers. We are developing a comprehensive account transfer utility that allows server Admins to effortlessly transfer User/Reseller accounts (and their content) to a different DirectAdmin server.

That will be a GUI to transfer directly from server to server ? Any ETA for that? would be great, now you need go to ssh and move the tar.gz beetween machines

The transfer could only be usefull if it also allows you to backup it that way. A great backup method for resellers and their clients the way it is now with normal clients on reseller level would be great.

yeah they really need to do something about this. We just got another server and was going with directadmin on it so we looked in the knowledgbase about backups, couldnt find anything clear so we contacted sales and they said we can only restore reseller backups. I have 4 resellers and I just figured it would be such a pain in the ass moving them so we just got cpanel on that box, And if we have to move off the directadmin box figured might as well do it manually.
I like direct admin but the system backups and the way it runs apache are reasons it will not get that much popular

way too many permissions, upload php terminal to a site and run some commands with safe mode off.
With safe mode on upload c99 shell.
Its a trip, you can upload anything, run executables, rise above the folders.
Its by far not secure. Suppose you was running one of these vuln 2.6 kernels, if I got shell to a site where I can run a php term then I could root your server with one of those local exploits, not to mention spam, dos, or all kinds of nasty things from your server.

Some may not think it is important, me being a security minded person I do.

Agreed,

A full admin backup will be great

failed hard drive can happen to any one and will be very hard to restore hundreds of domains

So why are you using it? Why not suphp to help on the php side?

meh, I dont want to even try da on suphp. I use da because I have mod security rules to block most shell strings.
I may look at php suexec in the future
