Well, today my server was unreachable for a while after updating to DA 1.29.2 yesterday...

Is there anyone else who has had issues with this new update?

I had to reboot my server through the APC to get it to work again...

I can't find anything in the log files either... :(

No problems with 1.29.2 at all. It has only one bugfix till 1.29.1. Maybe there was something wrong with your server, not DirectAdmin.

Check your dmesg and /var/log/messages, maybe you'll find something there. If you think it is the DirectAdmin issue - check its logs.

Apparently nothing logged on either.
Do see plenty of errors on DA though but I am guessing they are normal.

This is a DA problem!!! It crashed again during midnight I think it's some cronjob or something that kills it.

if it was direct admin, wouldnt it be crashing on everyons servers? mine are fine, so I guess its the way your server has been setup.

Instead of being a smartass, why don't you try to help me?
It's been happening since i updated to the newest directadmin, before.. it ran fine.

well your quick to force the blame onto direct admin.

have checked your data centre status? maybe there doing service work etc and it could be a co-incidence it just happened while you updated directadmin.

Of course, spoken to them on the phone and what not. They are not having any service on their network... My server is fine, nothing in the logs.. so what else is there? DA was the last thing I changed! I added a new IP and updated to a new DA version. Then it went wrong, you think I don't know nothing about servers?

Umm, we ran hardware checks and the software logs show nothing.
So no, it's not my server.

How do you know it crashed btw? How do you know that your DC did not reboot the box by accident something they do to each of our servers at least 5 times per year without fail. Its possible it was rebooted by mistake and it happens due to incompetance.

Yes, those errors are related to unresolved fixes that have been bought to their attention numerous times, im talking about the junk in the error_log, messages files etc that are abvious issues and none of those BUGFIXES have been resolved.

For eg, here is one. When you log into your box as a user its recorded in the logs and User tried to log in unsuccessfully everytime you log in. I reported it countless times and still not fixed. Amazing.

So your right, there are numerous things they could be working on.

My DC did not reboot it, it is a software problem... is it possible that fedora core 5 updates automatically without notifying? If so, how do I turn it off? Could be the problem if it's not directadmin, which I don't think is the case but we'll see.

DirectAdmin doesn't touch anything that would make your server unreachable.

FC5 uses yum. Check your yum exclude list against the exclude lists posted on these forums.

However nothing yum updates should cause your server to be unreachable either.

It's possible that your server is plugged into a switch port or router port with an intermittent failure. That would be a data center issue, though one they may not find. If the problem recurrs you might ask them to change to a different port.

We've had this particular problem before, so I know it can happen.

We've also had memory problems that have caused a server to become unresponsive; generally when that happens there's something on the local screen, but most servers don't have a monitor attached, so no one would ever know.

We've had that problem as well.

A motherboard problem could cause the same to happen.

Actually, a stray electron out of the atmosphere could cause it to happen as well, but I don't want to offer you too many options :) .

Thanks for your input Jeff, if it occurs again I'll definately use those options.

Where do I find the exclude list here on the forums?

If I knew where it was, I would have told you :) .

Perhaps start searching threads for yum ? Or the two words yum exclude?

I never said you new nothing about servers, i said what i said because of this:

just thought i would try and explain myself. sorry if you took it the wrong way.

you think I don't know nothing about servers?

Actually many people do not know things about servers. I know I certainly do not know it all. The questions that were asked were legitimate questions that a lot of people do not think of. A lot of times the problem is not what we personally think it is. That is why we come here for help.
