Skins Update - Changes for DirectAdmin Skins

If I could take the time to explain my frustration. In most cases, when a skin update is made, not enough information is given to us. In order to make the necessary changes in our custom skins, we just need a little more information.

I have a REAL hard time trying to figure out wtf has been changed from version to version in my custom skin. All I need is a little more information.

I'm running Persephone for example, which, unfortunately, hasn't been updated since 1.22.2. Now it's my job to go through and add all the updated features.

Can we try to figure out a better system? As it is, I'm pretty much forced out of any additional end user system functionality, simple because it is so difficult to update the skin.

Here you have all the changes in all versions here http://www.directadmin.com/versions.php. You must take a look on those lines what have the (SKINS) rinsing.

For example "TXT records in DNS (SKINS)". If you click in there you can see the full explanation. (in the example: http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=597)

If you need to view all versions go here

Pleace review if i miss one

Yeah, unfortunately, those links just bascially say what has been done. Instead of instructions on how to update your current skin. And they are sometimes incomplete.

For example, I challenge you to try and implement just this one change into (for sake of argument) the Persephone skin ( http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1740 )

Let alone something as complex as the SpamAssassin integration..

I suppose the real problem is that I find the included skins (that are automatically updated with every new DA release) lacking to a large degree.

Install info

I'm new to DA and am still trying to get it all setup. I found this thread and have read all three pages but still do not understand where to go to update my skins or how to install the updates. Is there like a "Idiot's Guide" someplace? Or can someone in simple terms explain to me how I get the updates and/or how to install the updates.

Thanks

Which is what walo said they were.

The DirectAdmin skins tutorial can be found here.

The Persephone skin isn't an official DA skin, and may include unsupported code.
Let alone something as complex as the SpamAssassin integration..
Just what do you expect? A programming course?

You either like DirectAdmin enough to use it or you don't. If you like DA but find a few things missing from the skin you're certainly welcome to create your own skins.

If you have suggestions for the direction you'd like to see DirectAdmin take (including ideas for the skins), then you're certainly welcome to post them under Feedback & Feature Requests here.

The built-in skins are maintained automatically by DirectAdmin; whenever a new feature is implemented that requires a change to the skins, the skin updates are included automatically.

If you obtain unofficial skins from some other source and you install them, then you're responsible for getting the updates from whomever you received the skins.

If you make changes to the DA skins (by copying them and then installing them as new skins), or if you create new skins yourself, then you're responsible for any required updates, and that's why walo included the list of updates that affect skins.
Is there like a "Idiot's Guide" someplace?
There's a complete DirectAdmin Skins Tutorial; see my previous post in this thread (directly above) for the link.

1.27.0
There are a few important skin updates for this release:

A new popup has been added for a bandwidth breakdown of the bandwidth.tally file. A new page is required for this command.
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=648

The db files are now restored with the backups. A checkbox is required for the "restore" page of the User panel. No checkbox is needed for the backups page.. the db files are always backed up.

updated to 1.27. tried the bandwidth breakdown but date it shows is wrong. now is already MAY but the bandwidth breakdown page is showing 2006 04 01 to 2006 04 11 . i believe it should be 2006 05 01 to 2006 05 11 (todays date)

Thanks for your quick response. I use the files for updating my custom made skin. Everything is updated and works fine now.

1.29.0
http://www.directadmin.com/versions.php?version=1.290000

Catch-All Option added to packges:
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=714
This is a rather lengthy update. Upon update all packages and user configs are updated to default "ON". If you use an old skin without updating, when you save a package, it will default to OFF, hence it's important to make the changes. I didn't post the changes for each file, but the structure is exactly the same as the spamassassin option line, just above the insertion point. Copy the spamassin line, insert it just below itself, then make the changes to the variables as mentioned in the feature link.

NS option for restores (local, or backup NS's)
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=725

Option added to the spamassassin page for blocking high score spam (in addition to previous settings)
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=726

I've also made some changes to the Admin Level backup page, which is in beta still (not intended for skinning)

All updates have been made to the 3 skins, and are available for download if you need to compare:
directadmin.com/power_user.tar.gz
directadmin.com/enhanced.tar.gz
directadmin.com/default.tar.gz

does version 1.29 actually disable plugin and break most of the skin?

After walo's marina skin stop working, I purchased radiance skin from CPSkins and it doesnt work properly as well, is anyone encountering this issue as well or just me?

CPSkins

Koh, we use skins that we once bought form CPSkins. No problem after updating to 1.29. But be aware that after buying a skin form CPSkin you have to do a lot of modifications because they almost never bring out an update. So after an update of DA, we copy and paste most code from the enhanced skin into our modified CPSkins.

thanks remco00, will you be so kind to provide msn or yahoo so i can talk to you regarding some enquiries?

1.29.1

http://www.directadmin.com/versions.php?version=1.291000

Automatic Lost Password recovery:
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=734
If you've made mods to your login.html, you can add the extra code to give users the link. Also changes in the Admin Settings for the "enabled: yes/no" needs to be added.

Token for squirrelmail link:
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=735
This isn't too important. It allows an admin to change /squirrelmail to something else via the directadmin.conf. If you don't implement it, /squirrelmail will simly be the only choice, as it always has been.

For anyone keeping tabs on the Admin Level Backup:
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=730
Also, CMD_ADMIN_BACKUP_MODIFY has been added. No documentation for it yet, as feature is still beta.

This isn't a skin change, but rather a welcome message change for owned IPs:
