The email template shows:

NS1: |ns1|
NS1 IP: |ns1ip|
NS2: |ns2|
NS2 IP: |ns2ip|

The IP addresses are not being shown in the actual email ... what needs modifying?

Thank you, Jon

No the nameservers were not set up correctly!

Our experience is with WHM and the base IP can be used as a nameserver but not with DirectAdmin obviously.

If I'm understanding your correctly... You can it just has to be setup through the nameserver pages with a ns.domain.com to it so that it knows that is supposed to respond to nameserver queries on that ip address.
For exmple say I have 2 ip address and the first is my server ip (base ip).

192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2
As long as I set it up to be ns1 and ns2.domain.com respectively you can use your base ip as a nameserver.
It just doesn't use any ips for nameservers as a default.
