Hi

I have recently had a client want to move to a VPS from my shared server so he can become PCI Compliant and continue to take credit card payments without penalty from his bank.

The problem I have is that I have very little experience in administering a server. My host has setup the VPS and directed me to http://www.directadmin.com/newinstall.html to setup DA, which I did to the letter.

The problem I have is that when I try and change the nameservers to the new server I get the following error message:

Unable to update nameservers: Nameserver [ns1.domain.co.uk] is missing or unknown IP address

So I asked my host what was wrong and he directed me to read how to use DNS, which I did and created a few records including an A record for the domain.

I am also wondering if when I initially setup the domain I inadvertently added the IP address that was already there as when I login to:

http://IPforthesite:2222/CMD_MODIFY_USER?user=admin

the IP address is listed in the drop down menu twice as 'IPforthesite - admin's current IP' and 'IPforthesite - shared - server'

So I am really unsure of what I am doing so am I being reasonable asking my host for help to set this up or is this something I am just going to have to learn from the ground up?

Thanks
David

You have to register the nameserver at your domain registrar for it to resolve. You also should add A records in dns for it to work. You should start by reading www.site-helper.com, admin.site-helper.com, reseller.site-helper.com
