I have been on the hunt for a webmail solution that can rival FUSEMAIL that can run on a unix box. Does anyone know of anything out there?

atMail not in the running...

I don't know about rivaling fusemail, but you can check out DWMail.

FuseMail isn't the same type of webmail client as those included with DA, in the sense that it allows people to read mail sent to any email address.

What FuseMail does is log into your email accounts for you, and download the email into it's own space so you can read it and respond to it through FuseMail.

DWmail appears to do something similar, but I can't tell from the DWmail home page if it's licensed for individual users, or websites, or a server wide solution, so I can't comment on it.

Why isn't atMail in the running?

spend a day in their forum and it wont be hard to figure it out...

i would be happy to share in a private forum...there could be atMail agents spying and I don't need any more trouble...

IlohaMail

btw I always thought that FM might be modifed version of SquirrelMail. Never looked at the source to check but it could be easily modifed to look and act just like them...

I use IMP with horde. They are probably the best web based mail you can find. The program is a pain in the ass to get installed, but once its installed it works great.

Maybe because of the large price tag.

On a different note. I think people looking for a different webmail should really look at DWMail. It is a lean server wide solution, is very inexpensive, very good support and forums and has most features users want and it looks professional.

i LIKE dwMail. A nice tool for IMAP interface!!!

ok...i am gonna check this out more!

It works with pop3 and imap. I would say the only thing it reallys lacks right now is languages, which memebers are working on now.

I would use Openwebmail if it weren't such a cpu hog.

rldev,
do you have dwmail integrated with DA?
I am going to go ahead and get a copy of DWMAIL and would like to get it in the DA panel if possible.

would be great to see an example.

regards,
john

I don't have it integrated as yet. I am assuming that all that would have to be done is to chenge the webmail link in the skin.

:) I'm not sure I get your humour here:) But I just can't swing AtMail and I really don't see what is so great about ATMail. Now if I could have Fusemail, that would be cool.

i don't think there is any humor in the post. i won't post my full experience in this forum but to say that i was unhappy is the understatement of the century.
i may use the software (atmail) only because i paid a lot of money for it but it is not going to be my mainstream product for too many reasons.

i am happy to own a product (dwmail) that looks to be supported and will help me :)

now to the install :)

fusemail is pretty cool but a pretty steep pricetag.

I didn't know what you used previously that you had a poor experience with so I didn't really understand your post:) Let us know how the DWMail install goes.

will do...

right now, i am fighting with c-client. can't get it to work and referenced the forum but it is not working. also, the install says i need mySQLi (whatever that is!) and PSpell for spell checking.

I am hoping to get it all installed by tonight. I have a post on the forum about using this as the replacement for squirrel, etc.

amidst my lack of experience, this is definitely going to help me get my feet wet! :)

hi rldev,
right now it is not going...
i am having some issues with pspell. so...until i can get those issues resolved, i am sure things will improve.
i am a stickler for little things. during the initial steps of the install, required/optional items are checked for validation. pspell is an item that continues to show not installed.
i have a post on the dwmail forum and on this forum with the pspell problems i am having so......no news means nothing new. (i have spent the last 10 years on MS products. it is taking a while to get back to the unix world...and really feel like a dummy right now, but sticking with it!)

thanks for the inquiry. I will be sure to keep you posted with the updates.

For Pspell you need the aspell library compiled on your server.
http://aspell.sourceforge.net/
According to the php documentation on pspell
http://us2.php.net/manual/en/ref.pspell.php

Once you have the aspell library installed you can recompile php with the following option:
Code:
with-pspell[=dir]

dir I assume is the directory to the aspell library, I'm not sure. I got that from the php docs on pspell.

;)
