webmail alternatives

Anyone using the latest version of Openwebmail? Seems to have most features people would want in one package, Spam Assain/Clam integration and looks decent.

I use Openwebmail on my non DA server, but it is a older version. It is slow and consumes resources. I wonder if anyone has version 4.2 or higher using speedy cgi?

greetings jmstacey,

i am very familiar with the instruction you gave me. however, we are still having a problem during the MAKE of the php build.
Hopefully, we will get it resolved soon and I can get under way with dwmail. i decided to rid squirrel and neo completely and will be using dwmail and atmail (holding my breath!)

kind regards...

I used to use OpenWebmail as well on my Cobalts. I really liked it. In fact when I switched to Direct Admin the only complaint I got from customers was that the webmail sucks and they want their OpenWebmail back.

I thought I saw a how to for OpenWebmail and DA a while back. Maybe I'll look for it again.

That Ilohamail that Extensis posted looks really nice too. :) really noice!

rldev....we have dwMail up and running...once we had the pspell/aspell resoved, the install took about 10 minutes.

Post some feedback when you use it a bit. I would like to know how efficient it is compared to Openwebmail. Thanks.

sure...what type of data are you looking for?

I am not familiar with Openwebmail but I will be doing a direct comparison against atMail v4.01 (once we get if installed).

I just want see how quickly it runs in a real server environment and how efficient it is in terms of server resouces.

ok....i am now running dwmail and atmail (in client mode).

they both are running without any problems and i the highest I have seen my cpu and memory usage has been under 2%. I am not sure how to simulate a few hundred users. However, it does seem to be doing just fine.
Definitely nicer interface than squirrel, horde, or most others.

Thanks for the update. Considering the price difference between AtMail and DWmail, doesn't seem like a fair to compare :) If DWMail had Spam Assasin Integration and more langiages, it would very hard to beat.

hmmm.....spam assassin included? Are you meaning the ability in the preferences to turn on and off?
Remember, dwMail is a web client...that is all.
atMail can be installed as a web client or server or both. I elected to install as a web client because I don't meet the minimum requirements to run in server mode...besides, there is less headache this way.
dwMail has a few things going for it. First, they are responsive and accepting suggestions for the next release. These are key issues in my book! Also, for the price, they are simply hard to beat.
I look at it this way....for the small price, you provide your customer with something more. If you met any of my clients, you would be amazed how they ewwwww and ahhhhhh with these nicer clients. Well worth it in my book!

When I say SA integration, I meant the ability to turn it on or off and/or set Spam Threshold value. Squirrel Mail can do this and it is just a client as well. As I said from what I've seen, you would be hard pressed to beat DWMail regardless of price. It is a well written program with good support. However, they do need more languages.

I am new on DA, and has been offered a Cpanel -> DA migration, however before evaluating it, I would like to know what is the default webmail, DA comes with?

Hi!
What is Extensis?

Hi

I tried DWmail install today and like you had problemns with Pspell but also imap support build into php:

PHP IMAP Support [Fail]

Did you get this?

thanks

Jon

A new problem with DWMAIL.

I have been able to login to DWMAIL with the main username for that account but if I try to login with another virtual email account setup on that domain I get unauthorized access issues.i.e

[email protected] = OK
[email protected] = Failed Authorised access.

Bit stumped here now....

Jon

what does dwMail support have to say about the problem?
I have had nothing but prompt responses from them...seems that this would be more of an issue for dwMail to resolve?

I have only notices unauthorized access to sites on different servers. My guess is how the account is setup (imap/pop3) but quickly resolved in advanced mode...
