jlasman, some of people wants to see "Leave both UebiMiau and Roundcube." instead of "Leave both UebiMiau (not secure and EOL) and Roundcube." and "Just leave UebiMiau." instead of "Just leave UebiMiau, I don't need anything else.". I think will okay now?
I made some changes and additions; I hope everything is satisfactory :) .

I don't understand what you are disagreeing with? I never said anything about who was in charge of your server.

In a previous post you said

That way users make a conscious choice of which program they want to use.

All I'm saying is that I really don't want the users to choose what webmail client I will end up supporting.

While you and I may appreciate the subtle nuances of using webmail via
/squirrelmail or /roundcube or even /thommail, my unsophisticated users are quite happy accessing it via /webmail, and using what set as the default.

I'm flattered that they actually pay me money to provide what I think are acceptable services...

jlasman, "Allow admin to decide" should be a feature request :) It shouldn't be there. This poll is only for opinions about uebimiau removal :)

Oh dear....and poor simple Thom voted for what appears to be the most reasonable and agenda-free answer....let the Admin decide.;)

tlchost, I think I get it now. You only want one webmail client available for your users to use. That is fine. That is your choice. You can do that no matter what DA decides to do. You can even do it now. Its just one line in the httpd.conf file.

Actually, to be very specific....as admin I want to control what the default webmail program will be, AND which of the available ones I offer to the users.

That's why I made the selection menu suggestion.

I'm not impressed with RoundCube *yet*. I see it has great potential but having used it for a week now I wouldn't like handling the support of a stripped down webmail client that has bugs galore.

With that said I would love to be able to disable able Ubeimail as most of our users have never used or seen it. Is there a way currently to turn it off without customizing the skins?

I have just recently setup a new DA server and would like to remove Goobermail (Ubeimail) from the DA panel as an available option. There is currently no way to do this. This would be a nice feature to decide which webmail programs show up in DA. :)

I looked at it....thought not seeing many(any) features and options was my thick head...but apparently there aren't many(any)?

Now I'm beginning to wonder...why would there be such a big push to use a product that was not only limited in features, but rich in bugs?

Thom

If I had my choice, I'd pick Horde Groupware Webmail Edition over Roundcube. :) I looked at Roundcube once and was not impressed with it. However, the Groupware Webmail Edition in the Horde project looks pretty nice.

I've used Horde for years. I would actually prefer not using it as it continues to be a bloated app. My goal for webmail is not to replace a desktop application. I like the simplicity of the ajax interface in RoundCube it is just missing some very basic features right now.

Hmmmmm, so the simple interface outweighs the lack of some very basic features?

I hope if Roundcube is one of the supplied webmails, the admin can elect not to offer it....somehow I don't think having to explain why it doesn't have some basic functions makes much sense.

All webmail clients should be on/off editable by the admins. Roundcube is an alpha at best application that in 6-12 months might be very appealing as a client. I wouldn't put it out for the general public at this time.

Admin selection make lot of sense. I'm really amazed that the suggestion was made to incorporate Roundcube when it's in an Alpha stage.

Okay, time to ask: what this about limited features? Tell us, please ;) !

Thanks.

Jeff

Martynas, I understand your point, but I also understand that the poll was limited enough to make it impossible for a lot of people to vote in it; it wasn't telling us anything. There were a few more options I would have loved to add, but we're limited in how many the system has room for :( .

I can remove it again, but if I do, then we'll never know if it was a viable option for a lot of people. For example, it's already gotten (in one day) twice the votes as my choice ;) .

Limited Search, No filtering on inbox, no preview (was removed in latest RC). No import or export for address book. The roadmap on there website goes into more detail about features that are due http://trac.roundcube.net/trac.cgi/roadmap.

I know that getting end users to change their webmail program is worse than root canal, so I don't feel comfortable putting an app out there that isn't quite polished yet, and has a limited track record.

jlasman, it's okay, it has some votes, so we can leave it.. :)

No, it's not an alpha, it was before ~1.5 years, after that it was beta and now it's a release candidate.
