And cars, a fairly useful form of transportation in much of the world, can also send polution, but that doesn't mean we want to get rid of them today.

Mailman is a good replacement for Majordomo. How you and/or your clients use it is up to them.

Ahhhh...

I thought the idea was to make this MailMan program available to all webhost customers on the server...

If it is, then all customers are not like you or I and will not limit the software use to "priority" type messages... In any event there are a TON of database powered email programs out there already that a user can download and install in his site if he so wants (even I have one that I haven't released yet.. ;).. ).. Why do we need to provide another resource for all server users???...

I'm just being inquisitive :) Even if it is made available for all server users, I think there should be an on/off switch built into the DA admin panel so it becomes an admin option to allow the feature for customers...

Now that you have so graciously interrupted my conversation with Jeremy, all I'm asking for a choice to allow my users to have access to it...

Don't jamb something down somebody's throat if not everybody wants it...

DA is already jambing 3 email programs down our throats with no way to turn them off in the admin panel without hard coding the changes...

Public forums aren't really the place for private conversations. You can certainly use PMs for that, or even email.

The first step for being able to give the choice is for it to be added to Custombuild.

Afterwards the next step is for someone to publish instructions on how to set it up for either serverwide or per-domain use.

The final step is for DirectAdmin or a third-party plugin publisher to implement the controls into DirectAdmin.

I'd suggest that if you'd like DirectAdmin to provide more granular control (perhaps as part of a package), that you post a request thread yourself.

If you've already done that and I've somehow missed it, then please feel free to bring the URL to my attention if you'd like.

Thanks.

I've posted on/off control threads on this message board before only to have you and the other Commodore completely shoot down the ideas which eventually led to pissing matches which led to your deletion of the threads/postings afterwards..

Setting up another thread is a waste of time on this message board as the producers of DA have an obvious mandate to accommodate programmers/hard coders and impliment third party solutions and then take no responsibility for these thrid party solutions rather than to create a totally independant control panel..

It's unfortunate that the developers of this software cannot get their heads around the fact that there is a bigger market out there for non programmers than there is for those with programming knowledge...

They could easily provide simplified admin solutions but for some reason they choose not to... :(

Prime example: "Move Users to Resellers BETA" is unfinished and has been so for the past 4 months or so..

Excellent browser based feature but unfortunately not finished because they keep jumping around to accomodate features that 95% of hosted customers don't use or want..

Another example.. DNS controls for customers????????.. 99% of customers don't know what all these controls are for. All the options are mind boggling.. All they want to do is to get the sites up and running online and not fiddle with DNS controls that they know thing about???...

I could keep going but this is not the time nor the place...

Radman,

You may uninstall the email programs that you don't want your clients to be able to use.

DNS Management is an option that can be turned on or off. Navigate to the reseller level, manage user packages, select your package, make sure that DNS Control is unchecked and save. DNS Control is a major feature for our clients. It helps us sell plans.

Users have requested a modern replacement for Majordomo.

I'm looking forward to allowing my customers to select which mailing list program they want to use. Over the years I've lost business because I didn't offer mailman, and I know if I didn't offer majordomo, some of the folks I have now would have gone elsewhere.

SMTALK has offered us Mailman for a single domain...I hope DA picks up the ball and gives us the opportunity to offer both Mailman and Majordomo to our customers.

I concur; A version of Mailman with managed updates from the DirectAdmin team that can be implemented for individual users/domains would be very nice.

Also, the ability to chose between majordomo and/or mailman would be a plus.

At this point I can add Mailman mailing lists for my customers, but that defeats the purpose of allowing them to manage their own domains.

The choice would allow folks using other control panels to easily convert to DA...they can let their customers know that the (majordomo) or (mailman) list will not be affected by the move.

I also think the domain owner should be able to select which mailing list manager(majordomo or mailman) is used on a list by list basis. I have been running a majordomo list on one of my domains for years, and another one using mailman. Until smtalk got mailman to work on DA, I ran the list on another server...and now I have both on one.

It should simply be that mailman lists can be implemented on domain to domain basis. Aka, if a user has 2 domains with email - then this user should be able to have 2 different mailman-domains.

Yes, or if the existing user still wants to run majordomo.

Waiting for more feature requests :)
Postfix and Dspam would make DA complete.

Spamblocker 3.x works ok (75-80% catch rate) but there is no reason we could not be doing better. I've been running over 98% with Dspam for over two years now. I should be able to share my lack of spam with my customers!

Another mailing list solution ! That is a nice idea !

And it will be really nice to have a language package system because it is a real problem for custommers that are not english speaking.

- NS3 Support (included in DA Webinterface)
- MailScanner with Mailwatch
- A link to remove "all mails from mailq" not for just 1 page (so we don't need to login on SSH and write "for file in * ; do rm -rf $file ; done")
- Option to install CSF/LFD (default with DA)
- Email level, so they cant host site or anything but just for emailing.
