I believe this already exists, depending on exactly what you want to use it for; please explain further.
I would love the possibility to define an external mailhost (running Exim) that would deal with all mail. I guess it would be possible with some development on our own using the DA API? But I would like native support for this. Maybe a simple directadmin process running on the external mailserver communicating with several DirectAdmin installations.

All email? And not process mail at all (except for mail originated by the system) on the DA server?

It's doable. It's a lot of work because DA isn't designed to work across systems, so you'd have to read files on the DA server, and create the files/directory structure on the other server.

Paulius, make sure you have chmod =<755 on that file, and it's owned by the user and not root.

Yes all email. I know it's a lot of work :) I also know it's not possible natively in DA, that's why I request it :)
I'm quite sure that hosting companies, in the future, will work with clustered solutions where each service (web, mail, database, etc) is running on different clusters. At least that's where we're currently aiming at and sadly DA doesn't really coop with that.

You're right. DA is a single-server solution. The only reasonably-priced multi-server solution I know of is H-Sphere, and frankly, I don't like it. For lots of reasons, but mainly because it uses qmail. I have nothing against qmail, but it hasn't been updated by the author for many years, and the license doesn't permit the distribution of patched versions updated by others.

Unless Plesk, H-Sphere, and other solutions that use qmail have special licenses they don't advertise, their distributions are out of compliance with the license.

Also, if you read the qmail license you'll find that the owner of the project reserves the right to stop letting you use it at any time.

All in all, these are great reasons for me to not use qmail or any solution that uses it.

Well as long as we're dreaming; I wouldn't mind seeing a grid server edition of DirectAdmin with the ability to compartmentalize different services such as MySQL...

- Tighter plugin integration options
- A more modular system allowing greater customization
- A more interactive (smart) interface. Let's see smarter searches along with auto completion.
- More functionality and tools. Move a domain between users, between resellers etc. (Yes this would be detrimental to my plugin, but these are things that really should be core tools of a control panel)

I'm a fan of tracking a project's status so let's se an official bug tracker, a vision statement, milestones, a goal to be moving towards because I feel that we're very stagnant.

I agree! :) It would be great if DA had some sort of roadmap and bug tracking system that way John and his staff can better keep track of feature requests and bug reports and we, the customers, can do the same. I would love to know where DA is headed and what is planned for the future. I'd also like to know that the bugs we're submitting are actually getting noted and slated for correction in an upcoming build.

I'd be willing to host and put something together, if I knew that DA would use it. Or, they can do it themselves if they prefer. Just my $0.02, for what it's worth.

My list:

  1. Integrated ClamAV support and the newest SpamBlocker.
  2. better support for changing skins (especially hiding or adding extra options)
  3. AWstats included into DirectAdmin.
  4. cPanel & Plesk accounts importing tool
  5. See a list of slow mysql queries and intensive php scripts, and their user and file/query

My list :D:

  1. A button, to test the server on common hackers-entries. Which would give a list of results, and users+scripts that are insecure.
  2. FTP with SSL
  3. A downloadable plugin for email clients that adds a (un)mark-as-spam-button, which deletes the mail, and tells SpamBlocker or w/e kind of list there is in DA.
  4. Set DB max-size per user & package
  5. Set emailbox max-size per user & package

call me a dreamer/lazy/service-minded ;)

1) build system with mod_ruid
2) Postfix as mailserver, get rid of exim!
3) Dovecot as default
4) Auto-delete user (e.g. set date XXX to delete user XXX)
5) One-Click-Restore (Better backup system).

Just my 5 cents..

Ability to migrate clients from Plesk !!!!! (This is the ony reason keeping me chained to Plesk) :(

1) build system with mod_ruid
To do that I think you'd have to use apache2 as the default. I don't know if we're ready for that yet.
2) Postfix as mailserver, get rid of exim!
Without reasons that seems to be a religious argument. What are the reasons?
3) Dovecot as default
I expect that to happen; however the problem is that then it creates a system that won't work with domains moved from a system using mbox.
4) Auto-delete user (e.g. set date XXX to delete user XXX)
Sounds dangerous to me. Why would you want to do this? So you can delete a domain x days after the owner stops paying?
5) One-Click-Restore (Better backup system).
Isn't that the point of the new admin reseller-level backup system?

Actually option 4 is a very good feature, but is probably more part of a billing system. Client's frequently ask not to be renewed. Without an automated way of doing this it is a pain.

Yep, that's why I asked the question I did.

Me? I use a GNU/Linux/KDE desktop, and I use KALARM to remind me of things. Quick and simple :) . It can send me an email, sound a wave file (I've got one of a telephone bell), or popup a screen message.

Client calls and asks to be renewed on the last day of June, I put it into my KALARM system before I hang up.

DNS feature request

I have a DNS feature request;

*) Add the ability to maintain a range of IP addresses with DirectAdmin (reverse DNS)

A couple of ISP's that I know of and hosting companies do not delegate the control over reverse DNS to customers. Currently DirectAdmin does not support maintaining a /27 (in my case) as reverse DNS. I would like to see such a feature added so that I can control my reverse DNS in my DA installation.

Thanks!
